The Surfer and the Sage
HomeAid was honored to welcome Shaun Tomson as a featured speaker at our National Leadership Conference, where his inspiring insights challenged and uplifted our leaders from across the country. To complement his message, each attendee received a copy of his book, The Surfer and the Sage: A Guide to Survive & Ride Life’s Waves, a powerful meditation on resilience, hope, and purpose.
Co-written with poet-philosopher Noah benShea, this book blends Tomson’s legendary experiences as a world champion surfer with profound life lessons that speak to overcoming adversity. Through 18 dual narratives, one from the surfer’s perspective and one from the sage’s, the book explores how we navigate life’s inevitable challenges, from personal loss to professional struggles, and ultimately find meaning in the journey.
The Surfer and the Sage aligns closely with HomeAid’s mission, which is rooted in the belief that hope and perseverance can transform lives. Just as Tomson encourages readers to embrace life’s waves with courage, HomeAid works to provide stability, shelter, and opportunities to individuals and families experiencing homelessness, helping them find their own path forward.
We highly recommend this book for anyone seeking a fresh perspective on resilience and renewal. It is a timely reminder that even in our hardest moments, we have the power to redefine our story and move toward a brighter future.
Together, we can ride life’s waves and build new beginnings for those in need.
