HomeAid’s Chief Affiliate Officer visits HomeAid Northern California
I recently traveled to Northern California to attend the ribbon-cutting event for a newly completed HomeAid project.
Carol Patterson, CEO of Shepherd’s Gate, welcomed guests and introduced the Mayor of Brentwood, Susannah Meyer who thanked the many partners who were involved in the expansion of the long-term residential program for
women and children. The program started in 1983 and helps women safely escape homelessness, addiction, trafficking and abuse. Shepherd’s Gate has helped over 15,000 women and children find hope and healing.
Shea Homes returns to Shepherd’s Gate
Shea Homes served as the HomeAid Builder Captain to add three new cottages to the campus. Layne Marceau, Division President, and long-time HomeAid Northern California board member, and David Best, Community Development Director at Shea Homes recounted their history with HomeAid and Shepherd’s Gate. Shea Homes stepped up to lead the expansion of the Livermore campus over 20 years ago and have continued their support by
returning as Builder Captain and hosting various drives and volunteer events to benefit Shepherd’s Gate over the years.
Shea Homes built three, 2-bedroom cottage units plus a large food pantry and laundry addition. The cottages will be used for clients who have found stable employment or are attending college, before becoming fully self-
sufficient graduates of the program and moving onto local affordable housing.
HomeAid Northern California also supported Shepherd’s Gate in 2021 with an expansion of the Brentwood Campus’ Career and Learning Center, offices and a multi-purpose room for children’s activities with the help of Signature Homes.
Dozens of Trade Partners Give Back
Crisand Giles, Executive Director of HomeAid Northern California, thanked the dozens of trade partners who donated or discounted labor and materials to make this expansion a reality. These valuable partnerships are vital to
allow nonprofit service providers to put more money into their programs instead of construction projects. HomeAid uses their connections in the building community to bring vital expertise and resources to benefit nonprofit organizations across the country.
Staff members of Shepherd’s Gate were also on hand to lead guided tours of the entire campus, followed by a delicious lunch provided by Shea Homes and a local Brentwood taco restaurant.
It was a pleasure to spend time with Crisand and see the meaningful work being done by HomeAid Northern California.
