HomeAid Gathers in New York City to Accept Award for HomeAid WORKS

HomeAid received $50,000, as one of Five Nonprofits Selected

Last week, instead of seeing my HomeAid team in a 2x2 square box with only their shoulders and heads and blurred backgrounds on Zoom.  I was able to see and spend time with some of my HomeAid colleagues in person with the New York City skyline as our backdrop this week.  It was not blurred!

As we were enjoying refreshments outside on the 16th-floor patio of the Mutual America Financial Group building, then later on the 35th floor with beautiful city views, it occurred to me that not only was this an amazing opportunity for HomeAid and our workforce development program but also for us as a team to have this time together.  The past couple of years has definitely taught me not to take for granted our actual time together, it could go away overnight.

HomeAid was recognized by Mutual of America Financial Group for its HomeAid WORKS program as an Honorable Mention recipient of its 2021 Community Partnership Award during a special event last week at Mutual of America's headquarters in New York City.

This $50,000 gift for HomeAid WORKS will help continue HomeAid’s mission of helping people experiencing or at risk of homelessness build new lives through construction, community engagement, and education by growing and improving the HomeAid WORKS program.

HomeAid Portland Executive Director Brenda Ketah summed it up best when she said, “I am so appreciative of the hospitality and generosity of the Mutual of America team! I also enjoyed meeting and hearing from the other award winners and exploring the beautiful city of New York!”

We are truly grateful to Mutual of America for their recognition of our work, the funding to help further our work, for being amazing hosts, and for the opportunity to celebrate this award together in-person full of stunning backdrops!
