Building Momentum: HomeAid Southern Nevada's Community Impact

At the end of May, I spent several days with Taylor Booth, Executive Director of HomeAid Southern Nevada, to see firsthand how the affiliate is expanding community partnerships, advancing high-impact projects, and building momentum across the Las Vegas region. Taylor and I have met monthly for two years as she stepped into this leadership role, and it has been rewarding to watch her grow and thrive as our youngest Executive Director.

Shine a Light Foundation

We met with Shine a Light Foundation and toured its facility with Brent Nowak, Shine a Light’s Engagement Liaison, to learn how the organization supports people living in the underground flood channels of Las Vegas through outreach, essential supplies, case management, and pathways to long-term recovery and housing. Founded by Matt O’Brien, journalist and author of Beneath the Neon, Shine a Light serves one of the region’s hardest-to-reach populations, including individuals facing homelessness, substance use, alcoholism, and mental health challenges.

Tri Pointe Homes served as Builder Captain, renovating several key spaces including a welcoming donation room and a multi-use community space filled with colorful murals. HomeAid Southern Nevada is now considering a follow-on project with Shine a Light Foundation later this year, signaling a continued opportunity to deepen this partnership.

Living Grace Homes Expansion

HomeAid Southern Nevada’s largest project to date will add 14 new beds for Living Grace Homes through the new Safe & Sound Campus, expanding shelter, support, and hope for homeless pregnant young women. Since 2007, Living Grace Homes has served more than 900 young moms, and the new campus will allow the organization to extend services to young women up to age 24 with bedrooms, bathrooms, a teaching kitchen, ADA-accessible spaces, and counseling offices; the Beazer Homes-led project is scheduled for completion in July 2026.

HGTV’s Rock the Block benefits HomeAid Southern Nevada

HGTV’s popular show Rock the Block, Season 7, was recently in Las Vegas. The competition series is hosted by Ty Pennington and pairs HGTV design stars with celebrities to transform identical homes and compete for the highest appraisal. This year’s homes were built by Landon Miller Homes.

Kendal Miller, COO of Landon Miller Homes and President of the HomeAid Southern Nevada Board of Directors, used the Landon Miller Homes Block Party Weekend to elevate HomeAid Southern Nevada as the benefitting charity. Taylor and I joined board members and supporters to help with the event, where HGTV fans toured the homes, participated in the silent auction, purchased Rock the Block merchandise, and generated proceeds for HomeAid Southern Nevada, supplemented by a $20,000 donation from Landon Miller Homes.

Thank you to Taylor for spending these days with me and showcasing the meaningful work HomeAid Southern Nevada is advancing in the community. The visit reinforced the affiliate’s strong leadership, valuable builder relationships, and clear opportunity for continued growth and impact.
