LOS ANGELES - According to a recent report from Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority, the number of homeless people increased by 12 percent over last year, putting the number of those experiencing homelessness in L.A. County at approximately 58,936.
To address this public health crisis, local government-sponsored health care company, Molina Healthcare teamed up with HomeAid Los Angeles on Saturday, July 27th to create 3,000 CareKits. The company set up an assembly line at its corporate offices in Long Beach and approximately 20 employee volunteers organized and assemble 3,000 bags filled with personal hygiene products. The filled bags were given to HomeAid LA to provide directly to individuals and families experiencing homelessness in the Greater Los Angeles area.
This initiative is through the company’s employee volunteer program, Helping Hands. Through this program, Molina employees receive paid volunteer time off (VTO) to motivate and empower employees to give back directly to the populations the Company serves.
HomeAid Los Angeles is a Los Angeles-based chapter of HomeAid America, a nonprofit organization that helps build new lives for individuals and families experiencing homelessness through housing and community outreach.

Our mission gives us broad latitude to engage in building projects across the entire continuum of care, from emergency shelters and transitional housing to permanent/supportive housing. Every HomeAid project offers support services such as education and job skills training, as well as physical and emotional support that help residents move toward self-sufficiency. Under the HomeAid BUILDS program, HomeAid Los Angeles serves as the housing developer and liaison between our homeless care providers, the community at large, volunteers, builders, remodelers and developers, and their suppliers and vendors. HomeAid Los Angeles is a 501(c)(3) charity that identifies long-term, stable homeless care providers who need additional capacity and pairs them with our builders, vendors and suppliers, who donate their time, materials and labor to rehabilitate and build housing for Los Angeles' homeless. Under the HomeAid CARES program, HomeAid Los Angeles works to marshal engagement through community activities that support the needs of the homeless. CareKits Drives (hygiene kits), Diaper Drives (Babies and Adults), Financial Literacy classes and Volunteers Shelter Care Days are conducted yearly to provide volunteer service opportunities benefitting local homeless care providers.
