SunPower Shines Ray of Hope on the Sacramento Senior Safe House

HomeAid Sacramento in partnership with Lennar Homes and SunPower Corporation built a facility for abused and neglected seniors for Sacramento Senior Safe House (SSSH). This new, six bedroom 4,783-square-foot home is the first residential shelter of its kind in the Western United States. The Senior Safe House is a true safe haven for abused and neglected seniors who find themselves in need of emergency shelter as they prepare to transition to safer living situations

The project was the result of an impressive collaboration of charitable organizations. A newly formed partnership between HomeAid and SunPower was one note worthy collaboration. Through a long standing relationship with Lennar, also the project’s building captain, HomeAid Sacramento was introduced to SunPower, a leading developer in solar technology. Introducing SunPower to HomeAid resulted in a unique opportunity for the Senior Safe House to take part in the burgeoning green movement.

The goal was to build an energy-efficient, environmentally friendly home and generously donated 7.4 KW solar panel packages. Through the use of solar technology and efficient building practices, the Senior Safe House was “built green to save green,” said Lennar’s Vice President Laura Stickelman.  Stickelman points out that “the home is 30 percent more efficient than standard new homes built within California.” What does all this mean for the Senior Safe House? This means a reduction in operating costs and improved living environment for the seniors. In addition, the Lennar Charitable Housing Foundation contributed $125,000 to assure the completion of the project.

With an ever pressing need for more environmentally friendly practices the Senior Safe House not only helps save the lives of seniors in need, it helps save the environment too. HomeAid was very excited by SunPower’s donation and involvement in the Senior Safe House. Recently, SunPower Corporation made a generous contribution to HomeAid America on behalf of their home builder clients, that will help thousands of families get back on their feet.  Stelli Munnis, Training Manager, SunPower Corporation presented the contribution to HomeAid America’s National Board of Directors at the Pacific Coast Builders Conference in San Francisco.
