Unique Shooting Event Raises Funds for Local HomeAid Chapter

RIVERSIDE, CA  (July 8, 2009) ---  Ready, aim, fire! The BIA Riverside County Chapter and HomeAid Inland Empire were on target again this year as they hosted their annual Trap Fun Shoot to benefit HomeAid and its mission of providing dignified transitional housing for the temporarily homeless.

More than 70 members of the local homebuilding community participated in a fun-filled day of trapshooting at the event held recently at the Prado Olympic Shooting Park in Chino.

“The Fun Shoot provides a great opportunity for HomeAid Inland Empire to thank the building industry for their on-going commitment to the cause of homelessness, and also gives members an opportunity to network, build company morale and create lasting business relationships,” said John Adams, Fun Shoot Chair and President of the HomeAid Inland Empire Board of Directors.

The trap shoot is an exciting and fast-paced alternative to other fundraisers offering trapshooting competition comprised of teams that compete against each other by shooting palm-sized clay discs.

“Anyone can participate no matter what their skill level,” said Bill Blankenship, Deputy Director for the Riverside County BIA Chapter.  “Both experienced and first-time shooters participated this year and instructors were on site to help those attending to improve their shooting techniques. The Fun Shoot is a truly unique fundraiser for a very worthwhile cause,” he added.

Money is raised through sponsorships, team ticket sales and accompanying raffles and auctions.  The event, which is run by BIA and HomeAid volunteers, serves to raise community awareness about the issue of homelessness through media coverage and community participation.  In addition to the HomeAid Inland Empire event, HomeAid chapters in Northern California/Bay Area; Sacramento, Seattle, Washington and Portland, Oregon stage annual trap shoot fundraisers.

The 2009 BIA Riverside County Chapter/HomeAid Inland Empire Fun Shoot is just one way that the local homebuilding industry provides support to organizations committed to the cause of homelessness.

Corporate sponsors for this year’s HomeAid Inland Empire Fun Shoot included Watermarke, Fusion Sign & Design, Applied Photography and OCB Reprographics.

HomeAid Inland Empire is one of 22 HomeAid America™ chapters nationwide.  The program involves building industry volunteers working together with community leaders and service providers to offer temporary housing to men, women and children who are trying to get a new start in life.

HomeAid Inland Empire is currently working on several shelter projects including the addition of 15,000 square feet and 80 beds at Veronica’s Home of Mercy in San Bernardino; and a 5,900 square foot intake center and emergency shelter at Mercy House in Ontario, and restorations at the Olive Crest Inland Community Children’s Ranch in Perris.

In addition, the organization recently completed the construction of four 3,200 square foot homes in the first phase of development at the Olive Crest Children’s Center in Coachella. Family Development was the HomeAid builder captain for this project.

Participation in HomeAid Inland Empire is not limited to those in the building industry.  Donations to HomeAid provide a way for individuals to help those in need achieve and maintain a dignified way of life now, and into the future.  For more information about HomeAid Inland Empire or to find out how you can donate or volunteer, call (951) 686-0628 or email info@homeaidie.org.  Follow us on twitter at www.twitter.com/homeaidie
