ProBuild’s Powerful Partnership with HomeAid Builds Growth
ProBuild’s multi-year contribution supports growth initiatives and provides entry for product donation to HomeAid facilities in the fight against homelessness
HomeAid today announced that ProBuild pledged its continuing commitment to HomeAid in the fight against homelessness in 2008. The partnership with ProBuild, the largest professional building materials dealer in the U.S., consists of a multi-year, significant monetary contribution in support of HomeAid's chapter expansion efforts along the East Coast. Initiated in 2006, the donation facilitates HomeAid's entry into new communities in the Southeast, Mid-Atlantic and Northeast states, and strengthens the organization's capability to provide transitional housing for the temporarily homeless in these areas. ProBuild's strong presence along the eastern seaboard, in conjunction with its commitment to the communities in which it operates, make it a natural fit to help HomeAid strategically expand its chapter base on the East Coast, furthering the organization's mission of building dignified homes where families and individuals can rebuild their lives. "Our work with HomeAid truly reflects our desire to give something back to the communities in which we work and live." said Frederick M. Marino, vice chairman of ProBuild. "Transitional housing strengthens our communities by providing a home and an opportunity for temporarily homeless families and individuals to get back on their feet." Supporting HomeAid Growth into the Southeast, Mid-Atlantic and Northeast ProBuild's funding in 2006 had an immediate impact, enabling HomeAid to expand into the Tampa, Florida region with a chapter. In 2007, HomeAid opened four new chapters - Charlotte, NC; Michigan (state model); Washington, D.C.; and New York City. Each chapter has begun forming their boards and determining their first projects within their respective geographies. "To enable new chapters to become self-sustaining, HomeAid uses a matching-grant approach to encourage fundraising that initiates our program with local home-building associations," said Genette Eaton, chief executive officer of HomeAid. "ProBuild's donations have been critical in sparking the recent chapter growth trend that we have experienced and ultimately have helped thousands of homeless individuals who need a second chance in life." ProBuild's Business Divisions Make an Impact In addition to corporate funding for chapter expansion efforts, ProBuild's business regions have contributed to HomeAid chapter projects across the country, most recently in Colorado and Seattle. In Colorado, ProBuild South joined builder captain John Laing Homes to provide lumber to Third Way, a four-house, ranch-style facility currently under construction that will serve homeless teens and youth who exhibit severe mental disorders and behavioral issues. The programs at Third Way teach independent living skills while addressing the residents' major life issues and crises. Also, ProBuild South will supply Tyvek for a second non-profit facility called Interfaith Hospitality Network. Groundbreaking this month, the facility will be built as an environmentally-efficient duplex for homeless families. In Seattle, ProBuild West joined builder captain Shea Homes to supply drywall for over 9,000 square-feet of living space at the 12,477 square-foot Housing at the Crossroads (Kensington Square) development. Located in Bellevue, Washington, the 16-bed development will include six new town homes and double the organization's capacity to provide stable, affordable transitional housing for homeless families in the Eastside area.
