GE Consumer & Industrial Committed to Fight Homelessness

Industry Appliance Leader Provides Cash and Product Donations for HomeAid to Help Build Dignified Housing for Thousands of Today's Homeless

HomeAid, a leading national non-profit provider of housing for today's homeless, announced GE Consumer & Industrial renewed its commitment to HomeAid and fighting homelessness in 2008. The industry leader in major appliance, lighting and integrated ndustrial equipment, systems and services, presented HomeAid with a check for $150,000 at the organization's national board of directors meeting held today in conjunction with the International Builder's Show® in Orlando, Fla. In addition to the cash contribution, GE plans to continue product donations and resources that support HomeAid's efforts to end homelessness across the U.S.

"HomeAid's effort to end homelessness across the country continues to capture our imagination and spirit of giving back to the various communities in which we work," said Phil Utley, Manager-Trade Relations of GE Consumer & Industrial. "We are proud to help the homeless families and individuals that HomeAid serves get a second chance at life."

Since 2006, GE Consumer & Industrial has been a generous national donor of HomeAid with cash and numerous product contributions that support HomeAid's mission across its 22-chapter organization, including hurricane rebuilding efforts in the Gulf Coast region.

GE Rebuilding in the Gulf Coast
For the last two years, a key part of GE Consumer & Industrial's product donations involved providing all of the appliances for HomeAid's New Orleans Family Center, a housing facility for single mothers and their children who are still homeless more than two years after hurricanes Katrina and Rita. Located on the site of the historic New Orleans Mission, the 4,400-square-foot Family Center is a "green" build and the first post-Katrina sustainable homeless housing facility in New Orleans. GE Consumer & Industrial donated eco-friendly GE Energy StarTM appliances that help enable HomeAid to accommodate the LEED-NC (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design New Construction) Green Building Rating SystemTM, a national benchmark for the design, construction and operation of high-performance green buildings.

GE and HomeAid Care: Giving Back to HomeAid Facilities
In 2007, GE Consumer & Industrial employees volunteered for a "HomeAid Care Day" in Hayward, California to make life brighter for the residents of Banyan House. Built by HomeAid Northern California, Standard Pacific Homes, and FESCO's (Family Emergency Shelter Coalition's) public and private funders, the 32-bed Banyan House transitional housing facility received a new coat of interior paint and GE appliances for homeless families dealing with illness, job loss, divorce and the scarcity of affordable housing.

"GE Consumer & Industrial has shown tremendous heart and an enormous willingness to roll up its selves and contribute to our work to end family homelessness in America," said Genette Eaton, chief executive officer of HomeAid. "Through its donations and volunteerism, GE plays a vital role in helping us build dignified housing where homeless families and individuals can rebuild their lives."
