HomeAid Utah to Collect Diapers for Homeless Families

HomeAid Utah expected to collect 200,00 diapers for HomeAid Essentials drive

HomeAid Utah, a nonprofit that builds new lives for homeless families and individuals through housing and community outreach, is hosting their annual Essentials Diaper Drive aimed at collecting 200,000 diapers in addition to baby wipes and formula for families with young children.

HomeAid Utah will distribute donated items directly to the Utah Diaper Bank for distribution to nonprofit partners that focus on alleviating poverty and ending homelessness at the Builders for Babies event on June 21, 2019. Donations provide critical support for the families these organizations serve in their transitional housing programs and emergency shelters.

Families can spend between $80 - $100 per month on diapers for one child, but the cost can go up if there isn’t transportation to big box stores. While the cost of food can be addressed with access to food banks or tap into public nutrition programs, little if any help exists to address diaper need. Diaper need is the lack of a sufficient supply of diapers to keep a baby clean, dry, and healthy. HomeAid Utah addresses this challenge for homeless families by asking individuals and local businesses to collect the essentials families need to care for and raise healthy children.

Several home building and affiliated companies in Utah are involved and attending the event include Lennar, Oakwood Homes, Stewart Title, Woodside Homes, Chase, Academy Mortgage, Salt Lake HBA, Richmond American Homes, DAI, First American Title and CCMC.

Numerous care providers will receive donations from HomeAid’s Diaper Drive through distribution from Utah Diaper Bank.

“Diaper affordability is a national crisis.” said Don Adamson, HomeAid Utah Executive Director. “People are having to choose between buying diapers or buying food, and unfortunately many state and federal assistance programs do not allocate money for diaper purchases. By donating diapers, baby wipes, and formula to our drive, you will have an immediate impact on helping struggling families meet their most basic needs.”
