HomeAid Message from CEO Peter Simons

Happy New Year, and for us at HomeAid, Happy start to our 30th Anniversary! It’s hard to believe that our organization has been pursuing its mission to build new lives for America’s homeless for so long and we have had the opportunity to touch so many lives on behalf of the building industry. It is humbling and exhilarating at the same time and we plan to spend this year not only highlighting how far we have come, but how far we still have to go to in our quest to end homelessness in this country.

As we start this milestone year, our 19 chapters—we formally launched HomeAid Utah in December—are coming off a year in which they completed 40 new projects creating nearly 400 beds, and currently have over 50 more projects in planning and development across the country. With the projects completed in our first 29 years, we have now housed over 333,000 previously homeless Americans, giving them a safe and dignified place to get back on their feet. It is an accomplishment to be proud of and a motivation to do more.

We begin this 30th year at HomeAid with a new national Board Chair—Sheryl Palmer, CEO and Chairman of Taylor Morrison Homes. We are very excited about what her leadership will mean for us as we seek to reach more Americans in need by expanding our reach and the scope of services we provide. She is taking the reins from our outgoing Chair Scott Stowell, who did an incredible job the past two years and to whom we are deeply in debt.

Thank you all for your support for HomeAid in its first 29 years and get ready to get even more involved as we ramp up our community outreach activities to give more people in more areas the chance to participate.It will be a very eventful and impactful year as we celebrate our 30th Anniversary and it all begins with the launch of a number new initiatives and activities at the International Builder Show in Las Vegas next month. We hope to see you there!

HomeAid Northern California Celebrates 20 Years of Building Hope for the Homeless

HomeAid Northern California celebrated its 20th Anniversary on March 29th with "An Evening of Believing" as they thanked the thousands of HomeAid supporters who have contributed to the completion of more than 45 projects that have housed over 9,000 people experiencing homelessness in the Bay Area over the years.

The Lennar Foundation Grants Funding for Workforce Development Program

HomeAid WORKS, a new workforce development program will create opportunities for people experiencing homelessness the chance to pursue careers in the homebuilding industry. The program is made possible by a $500,000 grant from the Lennar Foundation, the charitable arm of Lennar, provided as seed funding to create the program.

HomeAid Atlanta Completes Fourth Project for The Drake House

HomeAid Atlanta completed its fourth project for The Drake House led by Builder Captain Ryan Swallow of South Haven Builders. The Drake Village provides longer-term housing solution for graduates of The Drake House, which has a mission of providing a lifeline of supportive housing and enrichment programs for homeless mothers and their children.
