For information contact: Carolyn Baker (949) 553-9510 RIVERSIDE, CA (October 6, 2010) --- The 2010 Gold Nugget Awards program has bestowed two Community Spirit awards on HomeAid Inland Empire for its dedication to Veronica's Home of Mercy in San Bernardino and Olive Crest Inland Community Children's Ranch in Coachella Valley. HomeAid Inland Empire is one of 20 HomeAid AmericaTM chapters nationwide that involves building industry volunteers working together with community leaders and service providers to build and renovate shelters and provide supportive services to homeless men, women and children who are trying to get a new start in life. The Gold Nugget Awards are the centerpiece of the Pacific Coast Builders Conference, homebuilding's premier tradeshow and conference. The 47th Annual Gold Nugget Awards recognized builder, developers, architects and land planners with communities and projects in the 14 western states and all international countries. The winners share one common denominator, excellence and innovation in addressing complex design/build issues. The competition is co-sponsored by BUILDER, a national magazine of the housing industry. "The Gold Nuggets have long been regarded as the standard bearer for the best in our business," said Terry Kent, President of the HomeAid Inland Empire Board of Directors and Vice President of Crestwood Communities. "We are honored to be recognized at this prestigious event and appreciative of the support of all of the building industry volunteers who support our organization here in the Inland Empire." The oldest and largest program of its kind in the United States, the Gold Nugget competition honors creative achievement in architectural design and land use. This year's program drew more than 500 entries, in categories that included residential, commercial, land planning and green and sustainable projects. Judges were prominent builder/developers, architects and planners from the 14 Western states served by PCBC. See www.goldnuggetawards.com. HomeAid Inland Empire currently has a project in the pre-development state for Mercy House in Ontario and completed several projects last year including the 80-bed Veronica's Home of Mercy II shelter and Phase 1 of the Olive Crest Children's Center in Riverside County. Veronica's Home of Mercy in San Bernardino is an 80-bed, 15,000 square foot women and children's center that serves the temporarily homeless in a nurturing and supportive family atmosphere. HomeAid and builder captain Crestwood Communities spearheaded a $1.5 million construction project. Olive Crest's Inland Community Children's Ranch was remodeled through the efforts of HomeAid Inland Empire and K. Hovnanian Homes. The 3,000 square foot residence accommodates group home living and serves as a learning environment for at-risk teens. For more information about HomeAid Inland Empire go to www.homeaidie.org. # # #
