HomeAid’s Project Playhouse
HomeAid's Project PlayhouseTM is a nationwide event that is one of the organization's most successful and can be viewed at many HomeAid locations across the country.
For more than 15 years, Project Playhouse has been associated with the HomeAid brand, with the event performed in chapters across the U.S. Most of these chapters have been conducting Project Playhouse events for years, raising more than $4 million in total.
Project Playhouse brings together members of a local building industry and the community to build and donate creative, unique 8'x10' children's playhouses for public viewing and subsequent live auction. While there is great variety in the theme and look of the playhouses, they all demonstrate the imagination, the highest standard of craftsmanship, the childhood spirit of exploration, and state-of-the-art high-tech features.
Besides the auction, one of the playhouses typically is raffled to the public. Project Playhouse successfully raises funds and builds awareness because of the generosity of the many builders, architects, sponsors, and other trade partners who design, construct, and decorate the playhouses as well as publicize the event.
For some chapters, Project Playhouse is the most visible fundraising event that they perform. Money is raised through sponsorships, event ticket sales, raffle and auction proceeds, playhouse tours, donations from auctioneers, and ancillary events, such as silent auctions. As examples, both HomeAid Los Angeles and HomeAid Orange County raised hundreds of thousands of dollars in 2006 for their efforts to build transitional housing for temporarily homeless individuals and families. Project Playhouse events in Atlanta, Dallas, Houston, and Southern California have garnered tremendous news coverage in local print and broadcast media outlets. In 2007, HomeAid launched the organization's first national scale Project Playhouse tour with multiple local and national market media outreach efforts.
Eight (8) HomeAid chapters conducted Project Playhouse events in their respective geographies, including Atlanta, Chicago, HomeBuilders Care Dallas, Houston, Inland Empire (Calif.), Los Angeles/Ventura(Calif.), Orange County (Calif.), and Southern Nevada (Las Vegas). Additional chapters will be added in the future.
New in 2007! A Three-City National Tour of Project Playhouse HomeAid launched its first national tour of its signature event. A key component to the effort was a coordinated three-city placement of themed playhouses built by Pardee Homes® based on the popular American Girl® brand in Chicago, Los Angeles, and New York during September and October. Houses in Los Angeles and Chicago were on display and auctioned/raffled to raise funds for the two chapters' local housing development programs. The New York house was donated to WestHELP Greenburgh in White Plains, New York, one of the leading transitionally homeless service providers in the New York City area for families with pre-school aged children. The three playhouses were designed around American Girl's 2007 doll of the year, Nicki, whose distinctive personality trait represents volunteerism. This trait of volunteerism aligns with HomeAid and our builders/partners' willingness to give back to the communities in which we live. These adorable playhouses celebrate American Girl's 2007 Girl of the Year, Nicki Fleming.

The house demonstrates sustainable-building practices for children and adults alike, featuring green elements, such as flooring, insulation, roofing, and much more. The Playhouse will continue to be on display at the Museum's Building Zone for years to come.
