Caroline, Inland Empire, CA

When Caroline came to the Alternatives to Domestic Violence program, she appeared to have no hope, no energy and no support system. She would say "I give up," or "I want to die," or "What's the use?"

Within a year, Caroline had gone from having it all together -- an apartment, a car, a good job and custody of her children -- to being completely homeless. Child Protective Services removed her children and placed them with their father. Caroline says, "I lost everything in less than a year. Step by step, the staff got me my life back. They were my support system. I call them Mom (all of them)."

Today, Caroline has a job as a Certified Nurse's Assistant, an apartment, a car and -- last but certainly not least -- her children back.
