Tracy Anthony, Ventura County, CA
Five years ago, Tracy Anthony was married with a daughter from a previous relationship. He and his wife were like many other couples today, working together to make ends meet, while taking care of their blended family. Yet, when Tracy was hospitalized with a serious virus, the medical bills began to pile up.
The financial burden became great, and Tracy and his wife eventually separated, the strain of the situation taking its toll on their relationship. Bill fell behind in paying the rent, yet, as a single dad, found it difficult to find a place to go for help. One day, before being evicted, Tracy was connected with a HomeAid-built shelter: RAIN.
The RAIN Shelter houses homeless families and is operated by the County of Ventura. They provide a structured, safe, environment for families who are willing to help themselves break the cycle of homelessness, unemployment, and dependency on public assistance. Tracy says that RAIN was the best thing that could have happened to him.
Although the first night was considerably tough, with both father and daughter crying, Tracy taught himself to be strong for his daughter and met other single parents who gave him strength as well. The staff at RAIN helped him to develop a savings plan and get back on his feet. He now has an apartment in Camarillo near the RAIN Shelter and is an active volunteer for that organization.
Tracy says he owes where he is today to the people at RAIN and the volunteers for HomeAid Los Angeles/Ventura for building such a wonderful facility.
