A powerful response to helping Chicago's temporarily homeless
Between 7/1/05 and 6/30/06, 73,656 people were homeless in Chicago.  Of those, 26,413 were children and 12,007 were adults in families.  Also, 19,477 were served in shelters, and 54,179 were living on the streets, doubled-up, in cars, in abandoned buildings, or in some other location that was not fixed, regular, or a nighttime residence. HomeAid Chicago operates under the auspices of the Home Building Association of Greater Chicago (HBAGC). With a 35% increase in demand for shelter for families in 2001 compared to the previous year, the Chicago area is ripe to expand its existing shelter beds, and we are ready to get to work in order to address this issue.
